Previously, there was no shelter at all, so if there was bad weather, passengers waiting for a bus had to utilise the shelter on the other side of the road. And then come back across the road when their bus approached.
To open the new bus shelter, it was such an occasion that there was even a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This was performed by Lisbeth Thiesen, chairwoman of Bix and Assendon Parish Council.
She said, “In the parish council we have been talking about it for 10 years so we’re very pleased that we have been able to do it. People had been asking for a new stop for many years and we managed to get the money together.”
And parish councillor Ina Chantry said, “The schoolchildren will appreciate it as this is the school bus pick-up point.”

What did they say about Externiture though?
"Looks just right – not too modern and not too old and does the job. Thank you for a very efficient service. And very cost effective."
